Set Windows XP to use DHCP

1Click on the start button, and select Control Panel.

2Once opened, double left-click on "Network Connections"

3You should see an icon labeled as "Local Area Connection". Right-click on that icon, left-click on "Properties" (There may be more than one network connection, depending on how many network cards you have in your PC. "Local Area Connection" indicates a wired Ethernet port, whereas "Wireless Network Connection" is for various types of wireless network connections including WiFi.)

4A window pops up, in the middle you will find a list of items, one of which is "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Left-click on it and then left-click on the Properties button.

5A new window will pop up, select "Obtain IP address automatically"

6Also select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

7Click OK to close this window.

8Click OK a second time to close this second window.

Set Windows Vista/7 to use DHCP

1. Click on the Start menu, and select Control Panel.

2. Click on Network and Internet. (Skip this step if you do not see this Control Panel item.)

3. Click on Network and Sharing Center.

4. Click on Manage network connections.

5. Right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. If Windows say it needs your permission to continue, click Continue.

6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties .Select Obtain an IP address automatically.

7. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window.

8. Click OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties window.

9. Click Close to close the Network Connections window.

10. Click Close to close the Control Panel window.
